  2. (This is a RISC OS 2 appl. It could run under RISC OS 3 though)

  4. I have at least four directory selectors, you know, those progs to
  5. select a dir as the 'current directory' from the desktop.
  6.  
  7. One of them is !Menon (but to sel a dir is not its primary purpose) which
  8. does this by watching for Ctrl+Tab being pressed and then selects the dir
  9. under the pointer. Quick and fussless but you're stuck when an editor's running
  10. (isn't one always ?) which traps Ctrl+Tab and one of its windows is getting
  11. input. Don't know about RO>2, but in RO<3 you would need to close the window
  12. first if you don't have a nice caret killer like !windAwrap or !Karaganda
  13. (which is not their primary purpose though).

  15. Of course you don't want to close a window (read: save you document first)
  16. in order to just select a dir. So you also have !SetDir installed and in a
  17. situation like ^ you simply drag its @ from the icon bar to the directory
  18. viewer you need. Or you find !Dir more useful because it allows you to drag
  19. files AND directories to its i.b. icon and selects a directory accordingly.

  21. Very nice but most of the time you're not in the vicinity of the icon bar
  22. (let alone a particular icon) and will have to walk across whole of the
  23. desktop (until you happen to have a nice wrapper like !windAwrap or !Karaganda,
  24. which too is not their primary purpose). Tedious in MODE 12 and deadly
  25. in MODE 102 (my version is 1152x448)

  27. Of course you're very busy writing a new major Archimedes hit and can't
  28. waste any time. You decide therefore to have both !Menon and !SetDir / !Dir
  29. running. But alas! the new major Archimedes hit is taking up mucho of
  30. your memory, leaving room for one more appl only. So you stick to one of
  31. those mentioned selectors and that's the reason why your new major Archimedes
  32. hit is going to not crop up in the foreseeable future

  34. My n.m.A.h. is almost finished cause I have the 3-way-dir-selector

  36. And so will be yours now that you have the 3wds too

  47.    index of archives. I have too many of them to look for one

  50.    It's a wonder he managed to accomplish his two m.A.h.'s without 3wds
  51.    ( Btw, !SetDir attempts to 'select' ANY window you drag its @ to.

  57. The directory icon, 't was named !zansi, must be from Alfred Tascon (sp?)

  59. The 'visual signal' icon (into which dir turns for half a second) was
  60. 'Get Screen Area'd from J.RÖling's !VarEdit
